A native of Ukraine, Oleksiy is a freelance bassoonist in New York City. He has held the positions of Acting Associate Principal Bassoon of Los Angeles Philharmonic, and Second Bassoon of Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra from 2009 to 2015. He has performed as guest Principal Bassoonist with Ensemble Signal, Columbus ProMusica, Beethoven Festival Orchestra and the American, Albany, Princeton and Richmond Symphonies as well as the Orchestra of St. Luke's.
In 2017 Oleksiy joined the faculty of Mahanaim School of Music. He has also taught as guest bassoon instructor at the Oberlin Conservatory, The Advanced Bassoon Institute at Interlochen, and has served as guest Judge for the Concerto Competition at Indiana University, Jacobs School of Music.
Oleksiy received a Master of Music degree from The Juilliard School and a Bachelor of Music from Oberlin Conservatory. He also holds a Post-Graduate Diploma in Orchestral Performance from the Manhattan School of Music. His primary teachers include Patricia Rogers, Whitney Crockett, George Sakakeeny and Barrick Stees.
While enjoying a freelance performing and teaching career in New York City, Oleksiy is also a bassoon technician and specialist, and spends his free time servicing, restoring and repairing old and modern instruments for bassoonists on the East Coast.
