Pedro Giraudo (Pedro Giraudo Tango Quartet),
One of the most creative, daring bandleaders on the tango scene today, Pedro’s compositions combine his love of classical forms, Argentine tango and folk music, and the spontaneity of jazz improvisation. He leads jazz and tango ensembles which play in New York City clubs including the Jazz Standard, Birdland, The Jazz Gallery, Blue Note, and Joe’s Pub, He has appeared at international festivals in venues such as The Blue Note Japan, Birdland Austria, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Jazz Festival Royale in Thailand, the Kennedy Center, Iridium, Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall.
Pedro has worked with GRAMMY winners Pablo Ziegler, Paquito D’Rivera, and Ruben Blades. He has also collaborated with Branford Marsalis, Kenny Garret, Regina Carter, Nestor Torres, Miguel Zenon and played in prominent tango ensembles Forever Tango, Eternal Tango, X-Tango and Tango Metropolis. Pedro was musical director of Tango for All’s Blind, Mariela Franganillo Company’s Tango Connection and Tango Recuerdo.
His extensive discography includes An Argentinian in New York, Vigor Tanguero Cuentos, Desconsuelo, Mr Vivo, Destiny of Flowers and the multi award winning Córdoba and El Viaje. Pedro plays bass on dozens of recordings for the Sony, Warner, Nonesuch, Naxos and Harmonia Mundi labels.
As a composer, Pedro has received commissions from Música de Cámara, members of the San Diego Symphony, Japanese clarinetist Sawako Yoshida, Jazz Gallery in New York, and the JazzReach initiative for their Big Drum/Small World main-stage program.
Pedro is principal bass of the Hudson Symphony Orchestra and the Música de Cámara String Ensemble. He is endorsed by D’Addario strings and Keeley Electronics.
