Music Hike II: Nature in the Wilderness

Sunday, September 2, 2018 - 8:00am
Moab Wilderness
Pieces:

Toru Takemitsu: Rocking Mirror Daybreak for two violins

Ludwig van Beethoven: String Quintet in C Major, op. 29, (“Storm”)

These two pieces will be performed with movements interwoven.

Event Description:

The red rock and sand concert site—and the hike to and from—is MMF Artistic Director Leslie Tomkins’ inspiration for this program of works with a connection to nature. Takemitsu likened his pieces to Japanese gardens, to be admired while strolling, with frequent stops to enjoy the foliage of a tree, a flower, or a distant view.  His tranquil work  for two violins threads through Beethoven’s quintet masterpiece which ends with one of the best "stormy" finales of the composer’s early years.
